Open source ERP

Openbravo ERP: enterprise capability without the enterprise licence bill

Openbravo gives you the depth businesses expect from SAP or Navision on an open-source licence. Indivar was an Openbravo partner, has delivered more than ten implementations across North India, and supports the platform today.

Openbravo is an open-source ERP with the reach most businesses expect from a major suite, and without the per-user licence cost that comes with one. It has been in the market for years, has an established install base, and is open enough to be shaped around the way you already work rather than the other way round.

One thing is worth knowing before you choose it, and we would rather you heard it from us. Openbravo the company now concentrates on its retail and commerce products and no longer signs partners for the ERP, and core development sits with third parties rather than the original vendor. That makes one question more important than any feature comparison: who supports your installation, and will they still be there in five years.

Indivar was an Openbravo partner and has delivered more than ten implementations across North India. We implement it, support it, build plugins for it, and migrate businesses onto it and off it. We are independent technology consultants first, so we recommend Openbravo when an assessment shows it fits. When it does not, we say so and point you at what does.

Why capable ERP usually costs too much

Licence and per-user fees on the major suites scale with headcount, so growing the team raises the bill before it raises output.
Closed platforms limit how far the system can be adapted to processes you already know work.
Once processes and data sit inside a proprietary suite, moving costs enough that renewal stops being a real choice.
What's included

Capabilities

Is it the right fit

An assessment before a proposal. We look at your processes, headcount and budget and tell you whether Openbravo suits them, including when the answer is that something else does.

New implementations

Full implementation of Openbravo ERP: configuration, data migration, integration with what you already run, user training and go-live.

Support and maintenance

The original vendor supports the retail products, not ERP users. We support your installation: fixes, upgrades, tuning and an annual maintenance contract if you want a committed response.

Plugins and extensions

Openbravo is open source, so it can be extended rather than worked around. We build plugins and modules for the community ERP to fit processes the standard build does not cover.

Migration onto Openbravo

Moving from another ERP or from spreadsheets and separate systems, with your master data, history and reporting brought across and reconciled.

Migration off Openbravo

If it stops fitting, we move you to what does and we will say so when that day comes. We sell the assessment, not the platform.

How we work

Our approach

01

Assess the fit

We map your processes, volumes and constraints, then say whether Openbravo answers them. This is where we tell you if it does not.

02

Design the build

We plan configuration, integrations and any plugin work, and agree what stays standard so upgrades remain straightforward.

03

Configure and migrate

We build the system, develop extensions where they are needed, and migrate master data and history with reconciliation you can check.

04

Test and train

We validate against your real processes with your own people, train the users who will run it daily, then adjust before go-live.

05

Go live and support

We take you live and stay on it afterwards, under an agreed support arrangement rather than best efforts.

The payoff

What you get out of it

ERP depth without per-user licence fees
A system shaped to your processes, not the reverse
Source code and data you control, on your terms
A named team that supports the platform the vendor no longer sells
Plugins for the processes the standard build does not cover
A route off it later, planned rather than improvised
Good to know

Common questions

Openbravo the company focuses on retail now. Does the ERP still make sense?

For some businesses, yes, and we would rather set out the facts than argue it either way. The ERP is mature, it is open source, and the installations we look after run production every day. What has changed is that the vendor concentrates on its retail and commerce products, so support comes from firms like ours rather than from Openbravo. That suits a business that values a system it controls and a support relationship with a named team. It suits you less if you want a vendor roadmap to follow. We will tell you which of those you are during the assessment.

Are you an Openbravo partner?

We were. Openbravo no longer signs partners for the ERP, so nobody holds a current partnership of that kind, and we will not imply otherwise. What the history means in practice is that we have worked with the platform since those years and have delivered more than ten implementations across North India.

Who supports it if the vendor does not?

We do. Fixes, upgrades, performance work and enhancements, under an annual maintenance contract if you want a committed response time rather than best efforts. This is the question to press any Openbravo supplier on, including us: ask who answers the phone, how fast, and what happens when the person who built your system leaves.

Can you move us off Openbravo later if it stops fitting?

Yes, and we do it in both directions. We migrate businesses onto Openbravo from other systems and off it to other ERPs when that is the right answer. We would rather run that project for you than watch you stay on something that no longer fits because leaving looks difficult.

How does it compare with SAP Business One or Navision?

The major suites give you a vendor roadmap, a certified partner network and a licence bill that grows with your headcount. Openbravo gives you an open platform, no per-user licence, and support from whoever you appoint. Indivar implements SAP Business One as well, so we have no reason to steer you either way. The assessment decides it, and we will show you the reasoning.

Can you build plugins for the community ERP?

Yes. That is one of the practical advantages of an open-source platform: a process the standard build does not cover can be added properly rather than worked around in spreadsheets. We build and maintain plugins and modules, and hand over the source.
